Ok ladies how many of us like to get our hands dirty? I don't mean planting a few flowers in your flower box kind of dirty...I mean backwoods, mud riding, camping overnight in the woods kind of dirty??? Ok it might not be THAT serious..but we have to have a good understanding that thrift store shopping is going to take a little bit of work...and we MIGHT just GET DIRTY for a change! Everybody still with me? Ok let's get started!
Tip #3: Dig, Dig, Dig, Dig, Dig!!
Good things do not come to those who just idly search the racks! If you are hoping that a vintage Chanel jacket will come jumping out at you like the guy with the chainsaw in the haunted house...then you might just walk away sorely disappointed {although if you have a really great eye and know your designers and fabrics EXTERMELY well then you might just have a shot at it!}. For most of us, however, it is going to take some more effort than that!
They key to finding a really great designer piece at the thrift store is to get beyond the immediate layers that are easily visible to shoppers, and find the gems that others have overlooked. Be prepared to lift a box or two, shuffle through some old stuffed animals, or move a few plates and figurines. If you don't you might be missing something very important that you never knew existed!
I found these gorgeous paisley print pants by following this very advice! Not only were they extremely affordable but they are almost identical to the new JCREW spring paisley glitter pant! Everything always comes back around :)

Visit EVERY section in the thrift store. Just because you have already searched through the dresses section does not mean that one hasn't accidentally been misplaced in the pajamas section! SERIOUSLY! I once found this great hat from Lord and Taylor that was mixed in with some wicker baskets and children's toys of all places! The minute I found it, about three other ladies tried to snatch it from me because it was so cute and only $1.50! Similarly, sizes can get all mixed up and stored in the wrong places, jewelry could be lying under an old picture frame, and vintage belts could be hanging on the end of every aisle hardly noticeable to a passerby. It all goes back to keeping an open mind (Tip #2) and allowing yourself to scour the store to find that hidden piece your heart is set on!
So let's get out there ladies and let's dig!
Have a great week everybody!
Keep it cool and refreshing!
