Giveaway Winners and Thrifted Glitter Cap Toe Heels

Let me take a minute to explain how the giveaway winners will be chosen:

First, I go through each and every entry. I will then assign your name to a number 1-however many have entered into the giveaway {for this giveaway there were 60 entries}. If you completed more than one entry option you will get an additional number. For example if I {Meghan} completed all 4 possible entries from this latest giveaway I would put 1-4 by my name..if my husband {Ivory} completed all 4 possible entries he would get the next set of numbers 5-8.

Then I use a random number generator to generate my two winning numbers!

Now onto today's Thrifted DIY project

Glitter Cap Toe Heels

Let me say that again ladies

GLITTER HEELS! 

For my obsession with all things shiny and sparkly I felt it was absolutely necessary to do a tutorial on how to get the famous sparkly cap toe heels for a fraction of the price! This DIY is quick and easy and literally takes about 10 minutes of your time! Once finished you will have you very own one of a kind DIY creation! Watch out Mr. Louboutin!

You know the drill! First, head on over to your local thrift store and choose a pair of choose that fits your flavor and style {make sure the material is pretty smooth so that the glitter can stick easily!}

Next, head on over to your local craft store to pick up a few supplies:

1) Several foam sponges

2) Your choice of colored glitter that you want to use

3) A sturdy glue that dries clear! Try this

3) Masking tape

Pick an area to lay out your project and have plenty of paper towels on hand {it can get messy!}. First, position the masking tape over the cap toe part of the shoe.

 Then, use the sponge brush to apply glue to the cap toe portion of that you taped off.

Finally apply your glitter of choice by generously sprinkling it onto the glue potion of the shoe. Shake off and excess glitter and now it is time to let the glue dry! Give the glue approximately 30 minutes to an hour to dry. 

Remove the masking tape and wa la you have your very own DIY cap toe glitter heel!

I have to say that this is my absolute favorite outfit from the thrift hunt! My mission before I even stepped foot into the Goodwill store was to track down a fabulous looking blazer {preferably with gold buttons}. I was browsing and browsing and browsing..and then bam..there she was..perfect and velvety and with the most beautiful shiny gold buttons and paisely print I had ever seen. My mission was complete..but wait..what did I catch out of the corner of my eye...LEOPARD! And not only leopard but a leopard velvet skirt to match my new found gold button velvet blazer! Pricetag for the blazer $3.00! Pricetag for the leopard skirt $1.50! Great deal...I think so! Also check out my fantastic chain link necklace by the fabulous Oia Jules. Elizabeth makes great jewelry at great prices!

DIY Thrifted Neon Necklace

Ahh Candy Coated Jewelry! Who doesn't love the idea of having a bit of candy around your neck!? In our discussion on neon baubles a few posts back, we discussed how pricey some of these tantalizing pieces can cost! If you want a quick DIY solution that won't break the bank try the following steps below to create your own one of a kind refreshing creation :)

First off, head on over to your local thrift store or goodwill and find a rhinestone necklace {preferably vitange} that best suites your style!

Next, decide which colors you want to utilize to create your necklace. Head on over to your local store and pick up a few bottles of nail polish in the colors you have decided to use. .

Finally, pick an area to lay out your project and begin painting the individual rhinestones with the nail polish. Keep a bottle of nail polish remover and some cotton swabs nearby to help clean off any unwanted spots as you are painting.

Give the freshly painted necklace some time to dry and wa la..you have your very own and extremely affordable candy coated neon necklace! :)

Welcome to Thrift Week on the blog! So I thought it would be a really fun idea to try styling several outfits with fabulous thrift store finds. All this week and next week stay tuned for ideas to help you mix and match your new with your pre-loved :) One of the biggest trends this summer season has been the chambray shirt!  Instead of spending a tiny fortune on the popular JCREW version, head to your nearest thrift store or goodwill where you are sure to find a variety of chambray shirts in many styles and colors and for a huge fraction of the price! This Max Azria gem was a steal at only $2.66! You can also find a variety of skinny jeans in many different colors when thrifting! How awesome are these Express white denim jeans from Goodwill for only $3.79?! Now I know thrifting can be a daunting challenge..but if you go in knowing what you want to find and set your mind to it you can come out with some amazing pieces at incredible prices!

Important Announcement

Hello Everybody!

I first want to thank everybody for taking the time out to read my blog over the past 2 weeks..you have no idea how much it has meant to me. 

That being said....me and my family are right in the path of hurricane issac as we are just outside of new orleans, la in mississippi.

Please keep me and my family in your prayers. I have my posts ready to go for this week and will be attempting to post them as best as possible. If the posts for Wednesday-Friday come a little late it will be due to loss of power!

Magic Metallics

I must admit that I have a bit of an obsession with all things blingy, shiny, glittery, sparkly, etc. My saying is "if it shines its mine!" So immediately when I found out that the metallic trend was quickly becomming a staple for Fall 2012..I immediately jumped for joy! Now don't get me wrong..metallics can go one of two ways: 1) exceptionally good or 2) extremely bad. So, I pieced together a quick polyvore of some of my picks for getting started with the metallic trend in a classy and sophisticated way. You can add touches of metallic accents to any outfit by simply choosing a shoe with a metallic cap toe like the Dorothy Perkins heel seen above to give just a bit of flair or you can choose to go all out and really make a statement in an all gold metallic dress like the above RiverIsland stunner. However, as a rule of thumb when accessorizing with these lustrous pieces, you should always keep a neutral pallet when pairing metallics with your outfit of choice as not to be overly flashy! As always the choice is up to you and rock it out in style!

So I am constantly talking {rather complaining} about how hot it has been this summer. Thankfully though this week we have had a bit of a cool down and it has actually been super nice outside! With the nice weather in place I thought it would be a perfect time to practice some layering techniques for the fall. I am a huge fan of this heart sweater by Old Navy which is a much cheaper and almost identical version of the popular JCREW heart sweater. Since pleated skirts are a huge trend right now, I decided to marry the two together :) In going with a more classic approach to this outfit I decided to top it off with a set of pearl necklaces and a pair of pearl earrings. Using a bit of sparkle and glitter on my shoes takes care of my need for the "bling" and keeps the outfit neutral without being overwhelming. Happy Wednesday :)

Happy Monday everyone! I hope everybody had an enjoyable and relaxing weekend! Ok so lets talk some color since summer is still not quite over yet! How adorable is this mint colored high-low dress from Apricot Lane Boutique? When I first saw this dress on the Apricot Lane website I knew it was a piece that I absolutely had to have! From the vibrant colors to the sexy low cut back, I knew this was a definite showstopper piece that will be in my closet for years to come. By adding a bright pop of hot pink in the shoes and throwing on my favorite bubble statement necklace, I was able to give this dress an extra splash of color!
